Ryan O'Shea: Helping Fellow Runner Break Canadian Record

August 03, 2016

This has been a good year thus far for me even though I have only really done one major race. Winning the Fredericton Marathon with a new personal best was definitely a great start to the year, and has put in in great shape for the summer. I have two big events that I am planning for August. On August 7th. I am tremendously excited to run with Rob Jackson in Miramichi as he attempts to break the Canadian M60-65 record for 1 mile on the road. This will be my third event running with Rob as he attempts to break a Canadian record, and he was successful in the first 2 races (he has broken 3 Cdn records thus far).

Last year in Hampton, I was honoured to have helped pace Rob as he set the Canadian M60-65 road record in the 5 mile. Despite winning both the Marathon by the Sea and Legs for Literacy full marathons last year, being a small part of Rob’s Canadian record was definitely the highlight of the year, and probably of my running career. On August 7th, I hope that we can build on our chemistry to help him set another Canadian record.

On August 14th, I will be back at Marathon by the Sea in an attempt to win there for the third year in a row. I have been training hard all summer with Nathaniel Couture, and I am feeling confident that I can go well under my marathon time from last year, and hopefully set a new personal best. Running with Nathaniel has definitely prepared me for the hills, and with the nutritional boost I have been getting from Liv9, I am feeling better than ever.
